Homosexual hate crimes discussed for the most part, the entire show. (Read News story Below)
Most callers agreed that "hate crime laws" were a type of thought police.
Tim Peck called and made an excellent point as did Eric Gorny.
Eric's question was where does it stop? Will the next step be to arrest and imprison pastors that preach sermons pointing out what the Bible says about Homosexuality? Eric said he had read an article about a pastor in a western country that was prosecuted for speaking out against Homosexuality.
Might at sometime, if this progressed could we see what has happened in these other western countries happen here. Matt was not receptive and disagreed that it could happen here. No way could it happen, because people would rise up and revolt.
Tim pointed out that, having a category of hate crime sets up a special group, and the entire category of hate crime should be eliminated. It would favor one group over another. Therefore there is no equal protection under the law using this law. Whatever is going on in a persons mind is irrelevant to the actual crime itself. As far as the crime goes, if the rights of the individual is violated then the criminal should be prosecuted on that fact alone. You can't enforce particular thoughts. You can't create a law saying you must love everyone. That's not the place for the law or the government. We need to get back into the habit of punishing the crime based on the actual harm inflicted, and not on any thoughts or attitude. Well Done!
